Celebrating in Paphos
Paphos is the part of Cyprus most couples from abroad have in mind when they plan a wedding on the island. Many come from the UK and Ireland, Scandinavia and Israel, and the town hall’s civil ceremonies make the legal side simple for couples of different faiths or none. Guests usually fly into Paphos airport, stay in the resorts along the coast and turn the wedding into a few days of sun. Local families celebrate here too, in the town’s churches and in the stone villages on the hills behind it.
Venues and seasons
- The town hall and civil wedding venues for the legal ceremony, often followed by a blessing or a party elsewhere.
- Resort hotels along the coast, with gardens, pools and pavilions, where guests also stay.
- Clifftop and seaside venues with the ceremony timed for sunset.
- Village chapels and restored stone houses in the hills for smaller weddings and long-table receptions.
- The harbour for welcome drinks and the morning-after brunch.
The season runs from April to November. Summer is hot and dry, and spring weddings come with green hills and softer light.
Mixing customs
A Paphos wedding with a Cypriot partner often blends both worlds. The couple may keep the bed-making with friends the day before, and Cypriot relatives will expect the money dance. Guests from abroad usually meet these customs for the first time, so a line about them in the invitation helps.
Tips for a Paphos destination wedding
- One page for the whole trip. Put the welcome drinks, the ceremony, the dinner and the farewell brunch in the digital invitation, each with a time and a map. Guests check it from the hotel instead of messaging you.
- Ask for meals and allergies with RSVP, and send the totals to the venue as a CSV.
- Mixed guest lists. Guests can read the pages in English, Greek or Russian. Write your welcome text in the languages your families read.
- No app to install. Guests open a link or scan a QR code in the browser and type their name once. Hotel Wi-Fi is enough.
- Golden hour, then the wall. The live photo wall looks best after dark, once dinner starts.
- Gifts across borders. Bank details with a copy button in gifts are easier than envelopes on a flight.
Which plan fits
Story (€149 for a wedding) covers most destination weddings with the live wall, gifts and the wishbook. Signature (€219) adds voice wishes and a highlight video. If you send the invitation many months ahead, you can keep the event online for six or twelve months instead of three. See destination weddings, pricing and the wedding demo.
